Writing Good Content

Many people say that content is king when it comes to getting picked up by search engines and increasing traffic. This article will go over some keys to writing good content which will help your site in the eyes of the search engines.

One of the most important things to writing good content is originality. You need to make your content unique and your own. One thing that will not do well in the search engines is duplicate, copied content. If you write your articles after a lot of research, make sure you are not just copying and pasting the researched content to your site. Unless you are quoting an author, it is best to write all of your article in your own words.

The next key to writing good content is correct spelling and grammar. It is believed that too many spelling or grammar mistakes can get your article bumped down a few spots in google, yahoo, msn, and other search engines. To help with this, write your article in a word processor first and then make sure to re-read your article before posting it to the web. Also, it is helpful to have someone else look at your content for mistakes.

Another good idea to writing great content is to make your content natural. You don't want to have excessive keyword plugs all over your article so that it seems awkward for the reader. If you write with the reader in mind, it will also look good to the search engines. However, this does not mean you can't use keywords in your articles at all. It is a great idea to use keywords when you can and to vary the keyword phrases.

One last thing to do when writing for your website is to use header tags, bulleted lists, and internal linking well. If there are divisions in your content and you need to have section headers, use the html h1, h2, and h3 tags. These are picked up by the search engines much better than just bolding or underlining. The same goes for a bulleted list. If you need to make a list of some sort, use the ul and li tags. These also get picked up much better than just using br's and spaces. Last, don't be afraid to link a keyword phrase in your content to another part of your site. For example, if you are writing about fruit, and you have an article about apples already written, it is a good idea to link to your article about apples when applicable. Good internal linking will help get your site crawled better.
